History has dealt people with developmental disabilities a bad hand. They don’t have much power. They don’t have the power of money. They don’t have the power of status. They don’t have the power of being insiders. They don’t have the power of easy academic success. They don’t have the power of good jobs.
We’re stuck on a power teeter-totter. Provider-UP, Resident-DOWN; Professional-UP, Client-DOWN, Driver-UP, Rider-DOWN. Unfortunately, oppression tends to happen to you when you’re on the bottom.
Notice who’s always on the bottom. Us. That needs to change. Get off the teeter-totter. Let's stand on level ground.
