About the logo

  • Bird – symbolizes freedom – the freedom to make your own choices
  • Circles – represent the wheel(s) of a wheelchair
  • Body – represents 3 things: a body, a road, and a map – symbolizing a person, transportation, and accessibility
  • Outside the Box – represents 2 things: thinking outside the box and also breaking free of stereotypes and/or barriers
  • Half Circles – represent sound

Lori Jo McKusick is the designer of the Minnesota Self-Advocacy Conference Logo. She owns Crescent Designs, a graphic design firm in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her lifelong experience and interaction with persons with disabilities has given her a unique perspective. This logo reflects symbolically all disabilities and one’s vision for the future. The only changes that are made to the logo are the dates and the name of each conference.
