[SARN Memo for February 11, 2009]
These days, money is tight. And life is hard. That’s why Congress is trying to pass a bill to help the economy.
Part of the money would be spent on disability issues. $13 billion would go to special education, $500 million for vocational rehabilitation, and $110 million for independent living.
But heads up! Some Senators want to take this money out.
Call your Senator today. Tell him or her to keep money for disability issues in the bill.
(Thanks to Karen Topper of Vermont for this information.)
Find your senator’s phone number by calling 202-224-3121 or going online to www.senate.gov (use the “Find Your Senators” box in the upper right corner). Then call your Senator and leave the message described below.
“Please keep funding for IDEA, vocational rehabilitation, and independent living in the economic stimulus bill. People with disabilities deserve to get something from the economic stimulus package. With every state facing budget problems, states are already cutting services for people with disabilities. We need funding for programs for people with disabilities so they are not left behind. Thank you.”
