Perhaps a little fresh air is blowing in the land. Remember how our last president would not sign the UN treaty on disability rights? It was maddening. It was embarrassing. It was the wrong stand to take.
Well, our new president has said he will sign the UN treaty. He says he wants the US to be a leader in disability rights. He has a plan—and it fits with the goals of self-advocacy.
The Obama plan for Americans with disabilities has four parts:
This plan sounds good. Now it’s up to us to keep up the pressure so that they deliver on this plan.
