Pass the Hat for Haiti

[SARN Memo for February 10, 2010]

Folks in Haiti really need our help. Why not take up a collection at your next meeting and donate money to help people in Haiti? Then reply to this e-mail to let others in the SARN network know how you did.

  1. Self-Advocates Give Back
  2. Where to Send Donations for Haiti

1. Self-Advocates Give Back

It’s important to help others. It makes us stronger, too. Self-advocates have a lot to give. One of the myths out there is that we always need help. Yes, we often do. But we have a lot to give the community, too.

Let folks know in advance of your meeting that you want to collect some money to donate toward helping people in Haiti. At the meeting, go around and invite each person to say why it’s important to help others.

2. Where to Send Donations for Haiti

It’s best to give through an organization that you’re familiar with. Here’s a list of organizations with Haiti relief efforts, as listed in the Washington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/12/haiti-earthquake-relief-h_n_421014.html

Find a reputable organization so you know your money is doing good work..
