Developing Leadership in Your Group
Within the self-advocacy movement, people with disabilities are demanding the right to be in charge of their lives, to make their own decisions. This right extends to leadership. Shared leadership is a core value of self-advocacy: it involves drawing out the gifts of each person. Developing shared leadership makes a self-advocacy group strong.
In this workshop, participants will learn from the wisdom of contemporary social change leaders of grassroots organizations. DVD interviews provide a springboard for guided discussion activities. Fun exercises then lead the group to notice and name leader qualities within each other and to build their own definitions of leadership. Participants are empowered to see themselves as able contributors to their group’s leadership needs.
Perfect for board training, local/state/national conferences, staff in-service training, youth leadership initiatives and community organizing gatherings.
